I'm fed up with public car parks in Devon in general and this one is no exception. In the middle of nowhere they make a fortune offering unpaved or unbituminised "spaces" for horrendously steep prices instead of being grateful that tourists actually do visit this place. I ended up parking in Hallsands for free and walked to the lighthouse from there.
To pay a small price to park your car in this stunning spot is well worth it. You can walk for miles from here, both East and West along the South West Coast Path, or you can pop down to the Start Point Lighthouse for a tour. Or, if you can't get out of your car, the views of Start Bay, sometimes on a clear day go as far as the Isle of Portland in Dorset, are worth every penny. The car park is open all year and only charges a small amount in the Summer months - and there is a small portaloo too! What more could you want?
